The Bearded Collie is one of Britain’s oldest breeds. In fact it was thought that the Bearded Collie was around to greet the Romans when they first invaded Britain. At the end of the Victorian era that were very popular in southern Scotland, both as working and show dogs. Due to their ability to work in Scotland’s rainy and cold climate, and their ability to work on rough and rocky ground, they are highly valued as sheepdogs.
They were introduced in the United States in the 1950’s. They are also known as Highland Collie, Mountain Collie, or the Hairy Mou’ed Collie. |
