Trout Creek flows east through Yellowstone’s Hayden Valley and into the Yellowstone River. In 1888 the Yellowstone Park Association opened a tent lunch station for the people that traveled over Mary Mountain Road from the Lower Geyser Basin to visit Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Trout Creek was the halfway point in their journey and the lunch station provided them food and a place to freshen up along the way. In 1892 it was moved to West Thumb when the new Craig Pass Road was built. |
