In a jumble of slickrock, cliffs, canyons, domes, arches and desert lies a “ribbon of green” known as the historic district of Fruita. This is a settlement along the Fremont River that runs through Capitol Reef National Park near Torrey Utah. This enormous Fremont Cottonwood tree was planted in 1886 in Fruita and has exceeded its lifespan.
It became known as “The Mailbox Tree” because this is where the Fruita Community mail boxes were located. And it also provided a shady place to wait for the arrival of the mail. |
