In His Presence--Natural Bridge Virginia

Natural Bridge of Virginia was formed when a cavern collapsed and left the span that visitors see today. However there is a Monacan Indian legend that says the Natural Bridge appeared just as they needed to escape from and advancing enemy. The bridge is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is 215 feet tall and 90 feet wide. George Washington surveyed the Natural Bridge in 1750 and his initials can be seen where he carved them on the wall of the bridge. In 1774 Thomas Jefferson purchased 175 acres of land that included the Natural Bridge from King George lll of England. Jefferson built a two room log cabin and reserved one room for guest and it continued to develop as a resort area as more visitors traveled from all over the world to view this amazing and inspiring Natural Bridge.
