Baboons live in a wide variety of habitats and are extremely adaptable and intelligent. The major requirements for any habitat are good water sources and safe sleeping places in tall trees or on cliff faces. For the first month, and infant baboon stays in very close contact with its mother. The mother carries the baby next to her stomach as she travels, holding on to it with one hand. By the time the baby is 5 to 6 weeks old it can ride on her back by hanging on by all four limbs; in a few months it rides jockey style, sitting upright. Between the ages of 4 and 5 months the young baboon begins to spend most of its time with other juvenile baboons
