Kodachrome Basin State Park Utah

A few miles south of Bryce Canyon along State Road 12 near Cannonville Utah, is Kodachrome Basin State Park. The park is 2,240 acres of multi-colored rock formations of red, yellow, pink, white and brown that change in color and shadow depending on the sun and clouds. There are also massive sandstone chimney spires known as sand pipes that jut up from the valley floor as high as 170 feet. The park is surrounded by the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Because of the clear blue skies and the Great Basin Desert vegetation, the National Geographic Society with consent from the Kodak Film Corporation named the area Kodachrome Basin.
