Kanab was named for a Paiute word meaning” place of the willows” and was settled in 1864 when Fort Kanab was built. It is now the hub of the southwest’s national parks. The variety of scenery includes coral pink sand dunes, volcanic craters, deep canyons, majestic mountains and desert plains. Zane Grey lived in Kanab while he was writing “Riders of the Purple Sage”. It is often called “Little Hollywood” due to the films that were made there over the past years. |
