Driving along the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park we spotted this American Bald Eagle our national bird. The Bald Eagle was declared the USA’s National Emblem in 1782 by the Second Continental Congress. They choose the Bald Eagle because it is a species unique to North America. In the early 1960’s they were on the Endangered Species List and were remove in 2007. They are present in very state except Hawaii. Half of the worlds 70,000 Bald Eagles live in Alaska. They continue to be protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. |
