Midway Geyser Basin is a collection of springs and geysers along the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park. This is the location of Excelsior Geyser, considered to be the largest geyser in the world. The last major eruption was in the 1880’s when it was said that it reached a height of 300 feet. The only other observed eruption was in 1985 when it erupted for two days only reaching a height of 20-80 feet. It is now a thermal hot spring that discharges more than 4,050 gallons of water per minute into the Firehole River. |
