Snow in Norris Geyser Basin Yellowstone

Norris Geyser Basin Located in the West entrance of Yellowstone is the oldest, hottest, and most changeable thermal area in the park and maybe even in the world. No where can you find the diversity and changeability that occurs in this basin. The Black Basin area contains geysers and hot springs among the trees. Then you have the stark Porcelain Basin where vegetation cannot live due to the hot acidic waters. Combined with the sound of whistling steam vents, bubbling springs and a strong smell of sulfur you have a landscape that is most unique where each year hot springs and geysers form and then disappear.
