Oak Island is located on a barrier island on the Atlantic Coast of southeastern North Carolina in Brunswick County. The island has two towns, Oak Island and Caswell Beach, North Carolina. The North Carolina Baptist Assembly is located here as well as a United States Coast Guard Station. It is said that the Native Americans used Oak Island for their fishing grounds until the arrival of Europeans. The first permanent building was Fort Caswell built in the 1830’s. |
