This stone gatehouse is located on the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in New York’s Central Park. The reservoir covers 106 acres of the park, is forty feet deep and holds over a billion gallons of water. The reservoir was once a central part of New York’s freshwater system until the new water tunnel was opened in 1991. Originally it was the Central Park Reservoir but was renamed in 1994 to commemorate Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis contributions to the city. She enjoyed jogging in this area near her fifth avenue apartment. |
