Built in 1929, the Sunset Theater was the first movie theater in Asheboro, North Carolina. It was built in the Spanish style that was very popular in Hollywood in the 1920’s. It operated as a movie theater from March 6, 1930 till 1981. At present it is owned by the City of Asheboro and operated by Asheboro Parks & Recreation. There are many events held here including classic movie series, concerts, and plays. Sunset Theater is home to the Randolph Children’s Theater as well as the RSVP Community Theater both affiliated with the Randolph Arts Guild. |
