Founded in 1881 by Thomas Benson Ledbetter, the Ledbetter Manufacturing Company was built on Hitchcock Creek in Rockingham, North Carolina. In 1894 the mill burned due to a lighting strike and it was re-built and enlarged to its present size today. Ledbetter Mill manufactured yarn operating completely on water power till World War ll. In 1962 a manufacturing journal reported that the mill produced 2,555,000 pounds of yarn. In 1979 the mill closed and has now been renovated into the upscale Carolyn’s Mill Condominiums. |
