The Outer Banks are 200 miles of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina in Dare County. They separate the Albemarle Sound and the Pamlico Sound form the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the nations first National Seashore, preserves the Outer Banks of North Carolina over 70 miles from Bodie Island to Ocracoke Island. Outside the National Seashore boundaries are Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and communities like Burton, Ocracoke and Rodanthe where the movie “Nights in Rodanthe” was filmed. |
