Boone, North Carolina is located near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Watauga County. It was named for the famous pioneer and explorer, Daniel Boone who sometimes hunted and camped near by. It is also the home of Appalachian State University. Boone and the surrounding area offer visitors a variety of scenic areas, hiking and backpacking trails, creeks, and waterfalls. The High Country is also known as the Ski Capitol of the South with Appalachian Ski Mountain, Ski Beech, and Sugar Mountain Resorts located with 30 minutes of each other. |
