Dr. Francis Kron, a master gardener, was as famous for his flowers and vegetables as he was for his medical practice. In his garden he grew almost all the vegetables that were grown in the county as well as vegetables that were unusual for that time such as eggplant, endive, kale and broccoli. The greenhouse was heated by a wood-burning stove and by heated bricks brought from the house. He used the greenhouse to grow tropical plants and also get an early start on the vegetables. Dr. Kron grew a variety of fruits including pears, apples, peaches, cherries, currants, figs, apricots and plums. During the cold months he grew oranges, nectarines, limes, lemons and pineapple in the greenhouse.
